ERC Reminds DUs to Cause Immediate Restoration of Electricity in Typhoon-hit Areas

The Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) reminded the Distribution Utilities (DUs) in areas hit by typhoons Quinta and Rolly to act promptly and do their obligation to immediately restore electric power in areas which suffered power interruptions due to the damage caused by the said two (2) consecutive typhoons.

“In view of the onslaught and the consequent devastation wrought by the typhoons, the ERC reminds the DUs of their responsibility to quickly restore and respond to the electricity needs of their customers,” said ERC Chairperson and CEO Agnes VST Devanadera.

The ERC’s directive is pursuant to Resolutions that it issued particularly: 1) Resolution No. 12, Series of 2006, Section 1.2.1. thereof which provides that, each Distribution Utility shall make reasonable efforts to avoid and prevent Interruptions of service. However, when Interruptions occur, service shall be reestablished within the shortest time practicable and; 2) Resolution No. 26, Series of 2009, Section 3.3, which states that, if a Force Majeure or Fortuitous event occurs, the affected Regulated Entity shall seek the ERC's confirmation of the implementation of capital expenditure projects (CAPEX) arising from such event and coordinate with ERC as to the filing of Event Notice and filing of formal application.

“In times like this, prompt restoration of power is what we need the most. Our people, the consuming public, have already endured so much due to the pandemic, and now, exacerbated by another adversity. As electricity providers, the services that you provide is imbued with public interest. Thus, let’s do our best to help and be of service to the public. In fact, not only DUs, but all of us including other entities in the energy sector are concerned, and our assistance at the soonest possible time would be of great help amidst the pandemic. Let’s all be vigilant and be ready to help each other,” Chair Devanadera added.

The DUs are encouraged to file or submit pertinent documents through email at records@erc.ph
