Press Release: ERC in strategic alliance with the UA&P for national competitiveness
The Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the University of Asia and the Pacific (UA&P) in pursuit of achieving greater operational and economic efficiency and enhance the competitiveness of Philippine products. The MOU seeks the institutional strengthening of the ERC through staff capacity building. The UA&P will provide channels, such as roundtable discussions and lectures, for the discussion of power-related issues in aid of regulation. The MOU was signed held on 17 November 2010 at the ERC Office by and between ERC Chairperson and CEO Zenaida G. Cruz-Ducut and UA&P President Jose Maria G. Mariano.
The UA&P is the 4th member of a network composed of key academic institutions that have partnered with the ERC. The ERC has partnership agreements with the: (1) University of the Philippines in 2002 with a focus on engineering research and development; (2) Asian Institute of Management (AIM)-Scientific Research Foundation in 2004 for strategic planning and managerial skills; and (3) Mindanao Polytechnic State College (MPSC) in 2008 for energy projects and extension services. The partnership with the UA&P focuses on economic and gross domestic product issues.
“The ERC, given a limited budget for the training of its staff, developed a strategy involving alliances with key academic institutions to fulfill the objectives of the EPIRA. Alliances with the key academic institutions will enhance ERC’s capabilities in terms of governance, management, technical and legal skills in the name of better public service”, ERC Chairperson and Zenaida G. Cruz-Ducut said.
