Meralco's Generation Charge will be reviewed - ERC
The Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) said that the reported increase in the generation charge being recovered by Meralco (Manila Electric Company) from its customers in behalf of the NPC (National Power Corporation) and other IPPs (Independent Power Producers) is subject to mandatory review by the ERC.
The ERC earlier said that there will be no more rate adjustments this year for Meralco customers. The ERC based its pronouncement on the ten (10) pending adjustment applications which are still to be acted upon by the ERC. “The reported six-centavo/kWh (PhP 0.06) hike in generation charge, which is based on an automatic adjustment mechanism, is outside of the adjustment applications already filed by Meralco with the ERC. While the rule on automatic adjustment applies, the new rate is still subject for review and confirmation by the ERC,” ERC Chairman Rodolfo B. Albano, Jr. explained.
“The
ERC assures electricity consumers that all changes in rate charges are monitored
with vigilance. The ERC will always be fair and just in evaluating rate adjustments
to ensure the stable supply of quality electricity at the most affordable price,”
Chairman Albano concluded.
