ERC turns 6, unleashes ERC @ 11

The Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) celebrated its 6th anniversary on 25 June 2007 armed with exciting plans for the stakeholders of the electric power industry. Guests and employees were treated to a pleasant surprise by the unveiling of three giant posters to herald the ERC’s plan towards a better tomorrow.

ERC’s tagline: Towards a Brighter Future”, the key pin of its Communications Plan, was presented. Through this tagline, the ERC expresses its optimism and its hope of better things to come.

ERC’s medium term strategic plan for 2008 to 2011 dubbed as ERC @ ’11 (Effective Responsive Citizens by 2011), was presented through the unveiling of its logo. It aims to sustain a strong regulatory body. “A strong and independent regulatory is crucial to the development of the nation. The ERC endeavors to provide an efficient and responsive power sector,” ERC Chairman Rodolfo B. Albano, Jr. said in his speech during the unveiling ceremonies.

The ERC has adopted a theme for each year covered by its medium term strategic plan. Year 2008 has the theme “Empowered Consumers”. The objective for this year is to cultivate informed, educated and participative power consumers.

In 2009, the theme will be “Reliable, Quality Electricity”. The advancement of cohesive power development planning and ensuring responsive technical standards and compliance will be the goal for the year.

“Vibrant Competition” is the theme for 2010. The ERC will strive to provide a stable environment for competition, where there are no barriers to entry and there is vigilant surveillance.

Finally, in 2011, the theme “Efficient Utilities Management” will prevail with the objective of ensuring efficient and quality service to consumers and to forward a culture of excellence among Utilities. In the same year, the ERC will institutionalize the culture of excellence in the organization through the involvement of its employees in Total Quality Management (TQM).

To steer the direction of the ERC’s officers and employees towards the attainment of the goals of the ERC @ ’11, eleven (11) core values were declared. The 11 core values that the ERC will adopt were identified through the acronym “ACT AND SERVE”. The core values are fAirness, aCcountability, Transparency, teAmwork, iNtegrity, Discipline, Service to the publics, Excellence, pRofessionalism, innoVation and Efficiency.

Chairman Albano challenged the ERC community to achieve the goals of ERC @ ’11. Quoting William Jennings Bryan, he said: “Destiny is not a matter of chance, it is a matter of choice; it is not a thing to be waited for, it is a thing to be achieved.”
