ERC collaborates with DOE and DTI on LGU forum in Bohol
The Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) collaborated with the Department of Energy (DOE) and the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) on a forum for the Local Government Units (LGUs) to be held on 6-8 September 2006. The forum entitled “Consumer Advocacy, Assistance and Protection Team – Part II (C.A.P.T. II) for the Energy Sector” brings together the local government officials from Regions II, IV-A and V to the historic province of Bohol with the theme “Harnessing the Power to Serve the Consumers’ Energy Needs.”
The ERC resource speakers will take the first day of the forum to enlighten the consumers on their rights and obligations as bared in the Distribution Service and Open Access Rules (DSOAR) and the Magna Carta for Residential Electricity Consumers. Also to be presented is the Consumer Welfare Desk (CWD) that was conceived by the ERC to promote and protect the interests of electricity consumers.
The Department of Energy (DOE) will take the floor on the second day to discuss
topics covering the liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and oil products, alternative
fuels and energy resources and energy conservation. Consumer related concerns
on these topics will be given emphasis.
C.A.P.T. II takes off from C.A.P.T. I that was conducted in Baguio City on 24-27
October 2005. The first forum, which dealt on general consumer interests, provided
the opportunity for the ERC to inform its participants on the rights and obligations
of residential electricity consumers.
“The ERC takes this opportunity to gather community leaders in the grass roots level to enhance their capabilities of addressing the energy needs of consumers,” ERC Chairman Rodolfo B. Albano, Jr. said. “ERC is grateful for the participation of the private sector in this project through the Gateway East, Inc. which organized this event,” Chairman Albano added.
