ERC starts Year 6 with GREAT challenges

The Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) kicked off year 6 of its existence by adopting the theme “GREAT challenges require GREAT effort” during its 5th anniversary on June 26, 2006.

GREAT is an acronym that embodies the five priorities of the ERC as it starts to fulfill its redefined mission to promote and protect long-term consumer interests in terms of quality, reliability and reasonable pricing of a sustainable supply of electricity.

The GREAT challenges stand for:

Supporting the development of the
Generation sector through timely regulatory interventions;

Ensuring the
Ring Fencing (accounting and operational separation) of the distribution utilities to have a level playing field;

Putting in place effective
Enforcement programs to fulfill the mandate of the EPIRA;

Embarking on a cost-effective
Advocacy program addressed to its regulated entities and the electric consumers; and

Employing effective
Techniques in the workplace to improve the productivity and consistency of the quality of work.

“The ERC has accomplished much from its 10-point regulatory agenda last year, but realized that there are still more to be done, hence, the GREAT priorities were identified,” ERC Chairman Rodolfo B. Albano, Jr. said.

“To ensure the success of the reforms in the electric power industry, the ERC feels that the stakeholders should share the GREAT challenges that the ERC posed to itself,” Chairman Albano added.
