Hassle Free Switching and Settlement System for Retail Competition

The ERC is now paving the way for the establishment of a uniform business to business (B2B) IT infrastructure for competitive retail market participants. The B2B IT system is aimed at facilitating customer switching, information transfers, and settlement under a competitive environment. This system is expected to benefit both retail electricity suppliers (RES) and customers as it ensures the proper settlement of electricity sales i.e. determining who used much, who delivered how much and what the cost of imbalances was. The ease in the conduct of transactions will go a long way in promoting robust competition.

The establishment of a B2B IT infrastructure for switching and settlement comes on the heels of the well-attended Roundtable Discussion on The B2B Program last March 15, 2006 at the Astoria Plaza where industry participants recognized the need for a central registration body in managing the B2B IT system.
