ERC issues stern warning against misrepresentations
The Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) sternly reiterates its warning against persons and entities unscrupulously using the name of the ERC in promoting any merchandise, stating that “the Commission will not hesitate to take legal action against anyone found using the name of the ERC to promote their products.”
The Commission, through its Consumer Affairs Service, received reports on the sale of Power Star electricity-saving devices, with representation that the same is authorized by the ERC. “The Commission is not inclined to put the consumers’ welfare at risk,” stressed ERC Chairman Rodolfo B. Albano, Jr. “While we remain resolute in promoting and protecting the welfare of electricity consumers, we do not endorse the products of any entity, much less sell them directly,” he clarified.
The Commission urges the consumers to be aware of their rights and obligations as electricity users. Further, the ERC appeals to the consumers to increase their vigilance and to coordinate with the ERC in preventing and prosecuting such misrepresentations. Consumers can reach the Consumer Affairs Service directly through their hotline numbers 687-5577 or 687-5544. Likewise, the consumers can opt for the Commission’s TEXT ERC facility, by typing ERC and sending to 2920. Additional information on the Commission is available in the ERC website (erc.gov.ph).
