ERC awards 9 COCs anew

The Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) approved the issuance of a Certificate of Compliance (COC) to eight Self Generation Facilities (SGFs) and one Independent Power Producer (IPP) in a Commission meeting held on October 27, 2004 for complying with the requirements prescribed in the COC guidelines, as amended. This brings the total number of approved COCs for power generating entities to 129.

Four of the nine companies granted COC are located inside ecozones under the Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA). Earlier PEZA forged an agreement with ERC which resulted in the shortening of the processing period of COCs for its locators from 60 to 30 working days. The four PEZA locators include Coral Bay Nickel Corporation with a total installed capacity of 14.456 MW; Hitachi Global Storage Technologies Philippines Corp. (12 MW); Phil. Precision Technology, Inc. (1.20 MW); and Mitsuwa Philippines Inc. (8 MW). The other entities that earned the certificate include Strata Condominium Corp. (3 MW); Residencia 8888 Condominium Corp. (1.6 MW); Horizon Condominium Association, Inc. (2.75 MW); Development Academy of the Philippine (5.50 MW); and The Pearl Plaza, Inc. (.47 MW).

“A COC is required for any generating entity to ensure that it complies with the technical, financial, environment, and health standards set by the EPIRA Law and other pertinent laws,” ERC Chairman Rodolfo B. Albano, Jr. said.

As of press time, 49 applications for COC are with the Commission awaiting compliance of documentary requirements to proceed with the evaluation and inspection.
