Sanchez warns on use of ERC’s name as product endorsee
ERC Chairman Manuel R. Sanchez warned unscrupulous businessmen from using the name of the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) in selling their products.
The chief regulator issued this warning in the wake of reports received by ERC’s Consumer Affairs Service (CAS) that a certain dealer of an electricity-saving device within Metro Manila and nearby provinces is allegedly claiming to consumers that the Commission is selling the energy saving gadget and has authorized the said dealer to sell the same.
“Our office will not hesitate to prosecute anyone found using the name of ERC to promote their merchandise. While it is our duty to promote and protect the welfare of electricity
consumers, we cannot go to the extent of endorsing the products of any entity, much less sell them directly,” Sanchez said.
“We would like to appeal to consumers to beware of these misrepresentations made by deceitful vendors and report such cases to our CAS through their hotline number 687-5577. Complaints can also be sent via text message using the Text ERC facility by typing “ERC (space) (message)” and sending it to 2920,” the ERC chief added.
Chairman Sanchez vowed to intensify its drive against persons and entities involved in nefarious activities that harm the interest of consumers.
