Peter Wallace meets with ERC executives

Peter Wallace, a well-known business consultant in Asia, meets with Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) executives during the seminar on the Electric Power Industry Reform Act (EPIRA) of 2001, at Lagos del Sol in Lake Caliraya, Laguna on August 1-3, 2003. He is expected to make an objective and independent analysis of the country’s exclusive power regulator as perceived by the business community.

A leading political, economic and business analyst, Wallace is the founder of AYC Consultants, Inc., a consulting firm that has assisted private multinational and Filipino companies develop business in the country, and has helped various Philippine government agencies develop policy initiatives since 1982. His 30 years of research and consulting experience in Asia and the Philippines promises to give vital insights to ERC executives.

ERC Chairman Manuel R. Sanchez said that the holding of the seminar is “a vital component of ERC’s overall efforts at providing better services to electricity consumers and other industry stakeholders by developing a core group that is knowledgeable of the Power Law, and is fully aware of issues affecting their work.”

The seminar is aimed at heightening ERC executives’ understanding of the provisions of the EPIRA, important rules/guidelines promulgated or being formulated by the Commission, and other issues pertaining to the electric power industry in the Philippines.

Speakers during the seminar include such distinguished experts in the power sector as Atty. Oscar Ala, former Energy Regulatory Board (ERB) Commissioner, Dr. Fernando Roxas, former Executive Director of the Privatization and Restructuring Extension Office (PREO) of the National Power Corporation (NPC), and Engr. Artemio P. Magabo, also a former ERB Commissioner.

The speakers list also consists of Professor Rowaldo R. Del Mundo of the University of the Philippines, principal consultant for the drafting of the Philippine Grid and Distribution Code (PGDC), Dr. Larry Blank, Michael A. Pitlock, David Dawson, and Divina B. Chingcuanco, consultants to ERC; and several ERC officials.
