ERC employee returns cash, commended by Pasig City Mayor
This guy has a heart of gold.
Patrick G. Fontanilla, an employee of the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC), recently received commendation from Pasig City Mayor Soledad C. Eusebio for returning 8,000 pesos in cash he found at the Pacific Center building last July 11, 2003.
Mayor Eusebio said that it “speaks well of the kind of family he has and the leadership he follows in his office.”
ERC Chairman Manuel R. Sanchez has commended Fontanilla for living up to ERC’s vision of having professional people with the highest degree of honesty and integrity in the service.
A mechanical engineer by profession, Fontanilla is currently a supervisor at ERC. He has been in government service for almost 8 years.
“Mr. Fontanilla serves as a good example for all civil servants,” Sanchez said.
Fontanilla said that he was surprised to see the paper bills sprawled behind the security guard’s desk located at the hallway adjacent to the main entrance of the building. He picked up the money and asked the security guards if someone had been looking for it. Since there was none, Fontanilla then requested some officers of a bank at the ground floor to temporarily keep the money.
Accompanied by an ERC lawyer, Fontanilla later returned to the bank to get the money and deposit with Pasig City Mayor. Under the law, the finder is required to immediately deposit the money with the city or municipal mayor where it was found.
